About current PIC Programs for Law Students:
The Public Interest Clearinghouse is currently working with California law students in many ways. Two activities of particular note include hosting an annual career fair and facilitating the Public Interest Law Program (PILP) for member schools.
PI/PS Day
The 24th annual PI/PS Day took place on Saturday, February 9, and was a huge success! Detailed information about this year's event coming soon. For more information about PI/PS day please click here!
PILP & the Pro Bono Project
Through its Public Interest Law Program (PILP), the Public Interest Clearinghouse also works with individual California law students. Each member school has adopted various components of PILP, including the Pro Bono Project. PILP member schools include:
- University of California, Hastings College of the Law
- University of San Francisco School of Law
- University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law
- New College of California School of Law
The mission of the Public Interest Law Program (PILP) is to increase awareness and foster the values of public service among law students. Through a combination of practical experience, course work and community service, PILP supports students in their desire and commitment to provide legal services to traditionally underserved communities. PILP helps students prepare for a future involving public interest law, whether that future entails working full-time in a nonprofit or governmental agency, or devoting time during law firm careers to pro bono work.
Founded in 1979 by a consortium of Northern California law schools, over 4,500 law students have participated in PILP. PILP is unique in its comprehensive system of course work, seminars, and volunteer placements -- enabling participants to integrate their own skills and interests with the needs of their communities.
Students at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law; University of San Francisco School of Law; University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law; and New College School of Law have access to various PILP components.

If you are a student at one of our member schools and would like to take advantage of PILP membership and/or the Pro Bono Project, please contact one of our staff members.
